UNDERSTANDING YOUR FLOOR

You’ll likely order a number of wood floor samples before you make your final choice. Remember, your Ted Todd retailer is on hand to help you with these more technical elements, but, for now, here are some handy definitions to help you understand the key elements of your floor.

FINISH The majority of our floors are pre-finished, saving you time and money when it comes to installation. Beware of the hidden costs associated with other wood floor manufacturers whose products require additional on-site finishing.

WEAR LAYER The wear layer is a great indicator of quality in engineered boards, as this is what makes a floor long lasting. It is the section of the board that sits above the tongue and groove, and the thicker the wear layer the more times you can re-sand it over the years. All of our engineered floors have wear layers of at least 3mm, up to 6mm.

THICKNESS We offer floors with a minimum of 10mm up to 22mm thickness. All of our floors deliver great quality and high durability, with the highest thickness even out- performing some traditional solid wood floors. Make sure you take this into consideration when making your choice to ensure sure you compare like-for-like options.

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED WOOD

Always check whether the floor you are purchasing is sustainably sourced, whether that be through PEFC or FSC ® -certification or equivalent. Unlike other companies, we include this as standard because we believe it’s the right thing to do.
