AT HOME WITH ANNE-MARIE LEIGH INTERIOR DESIGN

INTRODUCING GRANDEUR INTO AN INTERIOR SPACE By combining a soft colour palette with neutral tones and naturally textured wood floor throughout the open-plan downstairs, Anne-Marie has created an effect of grandeur. “Colour and texture were really important – we wanted it to be light in colour with some variation, so we choose to use a natural, nature grade floor. The Herringbone design is beautiful and timeless, and we knew it would look amazing in the house.” The floor through the home links seamlessly and elegantly, with the use of bold, polished metals and statement furniture to further elevate the grandeur of the project. Subtle greys and natural tones from the floor also help to create a serene sense throughout the property. Featured floor: Furrow Wide Plank and Narrow Herringbone, Warehouse Collection, Ted Todd

We had the privilege of meeting interior designer Anne- Marie Leigh in her beautiful Surrey home, which she shares with her husband Mark, sons Louis (15) and Max (13) and four British Shorthair cats. As a designer, Anne-Marie specialises in luxury residential properties in and around Surrey and London. ANNE-MARIE: THE INTERIOR DESIGNER Anne-Marie began her professional life pursuing a career in advertising and marketing but having always had a passion for interiors was inspired to retrain at the respected KLC Design School in Chelsea. She subsequently set up Anne-Marie Leigh Interior Design in 2014. A lot of her inspiration is drawn from designers such as Kit Kemp, Studio Duggan, Emma Sims Hilditch and US designer Shea McGee from Studio McGee. Amongst the subjects we chatted about we asked why she believes British style continues to captivate the world of interior design, she remarked, “The British country house style is steeped in history, culture, heritage and tradition which appeals to the American market. British design is synonymous with classic quality craftsmanship, and luxurious textiles, inevitably creating timeless spaces that are admired by future generations”. ANNE-MARIE: THE HOME OWNER

Having recently completed a full-scale renovation of her own traditional 1930s property, Anne-Marie tells us how she introduced grace and poise into her family home. “Interior design should be timeless and not something that will date, so for that reason I don’t tend to follow trends. I love a neutral backdrop with lots of texture and pops of colour to keep things interesting. Lighting is also something I am very passionate about as it is so important in interiors and often overlooked.” Anne-Marie’s personal style is classic with a contemporary twist. She has effortlessly created a sense of grandeur by contrasting the old with the new and added statement pieces to bring atmosphere and drama.

As a nation, the UK are known for producing great quality products that stand the test of time.
