A guide to grade

The term ‘grade’ is used to describe the number and size of natural features on each board. It indicates the character of the wood, including knots, sap and tonal variation.

Prime The most refined grade with minimal natural features for a clean look. Only a limited amount of small knots and black pin knots are permitted, with occasional lighter sapwood to the edges. Wider formats tend to show more features than narrow designs.

Select Select balances the feel of both a prime grade and nature grade floor. Like prime grade, there is occasional lighter sapwood to the edges and colour variation, however it will contain more knots. This grade will also show irregular grain and closed heartwood.

Nature Our most popular grade due to its natural look, celebrating organic features such as knots, irregular grain pattern and closed heartwood. There is occasional lighter sapwood of up to 30% of the boards’ width with colour variation across each board.

Character This grade utilises the broadest selection of wood’s natural features for a rustic look, including large knots, small checks and cracks across growth rings. There are unlimited sap and split details as well as wide colour variation adding visual texture
